DON’T BE MISTREATED!

IF YOU ARE IN AN ABUSIVE RELATIONSHIP

You do

not have to stay in the situation. There is help! Love is not abu-

sive. If you think you are in love and the person who suppos-

edly loves you is beating or harassing you or your children, drop

everything and leave. They will never change. Don’t kid your-

self - Loving has a different meaning. Go to a domestic violence

shelter at the Salvation Army or stay with a friend, but don’t stay

where you are. LEAVE NOW!!! Don’t ever return! Someone else

will love you!

Passer-by Catches Falling Boy

A six-year-old boy survived a 70ft fall from an apartment balcony in

Sweden after he was caught by a passer-by. Rescue workers had

been trying to pull the youngster back into the seventh floor flat in

Gothenburg when he plunged to the ground into the arms of Lars

Gunnarsson who'd stopped to watch the drama. Police spokes-

woman Pia Goksoyr said officers had seen the boy dangling from

the window and rushed to help him but had been unable to reach

him in time. But Ms Goksoyr said the boy's life was saved as the

man managed to catch him and break his fall. She said: "The man

saw the boy hanging from the window and tried to catch him. He

caught him and broke the fall and probably saved his life. But the

boy was still hurt and is being treated in hospital." A spokesman

for Sahlgrenska's Queen Silvia Children's Hospital in Gothenburg

said: "His condition isn't life threatening." Police are now investi-

gating the incident. Ms Goksoyr added: "It may be that the boy shut

himself in his room to be by himself and the parents outside the

door in the apartment were unaware of what had happened."

Baby Elephant Trapped in Manhole

A rescue operation was launched in Thailand after a baby elephant

got stuck in a drainage ditch. The elephant lost its footing and fell in

the ditch while walking with his owner in Rayong province, eastern

Thailand, reports the Daily Telegraph. It took three hours to rescue

the calf, with a team using a bulldozer to widen the manhole, and it

was eventually freed unharmed.Mahouts, the men who drive the

elephants, often use them to beg on the streets of many of the

larger cities in Thailand. Baby elephants, sought after due to their

cute appearance, are among the most sought after, with some

taught tricks to appeal to tourists. Other elephants are used to per-

form heavy manual work. Concerns over animal cruelty have led to

many areas of Thailand banning elephant displays, although it has

not stopped a number of mahouts continuing to use them for

tourism. While the baby elephant was struggling in Thailand, Gay, a

40-year-old Asian elephant in Britain, was fitted with a pair of £500

slippers. Gay has been suffering from painful abscesses on her front

feet for the past few months so her keepers at Paignton Zoo in

Devon decided to commission the footwear.
